About
This 1984 512 BBi, “Francesca” was my mom’s car in the ’80s, and I’m beyond lucky to have it passed down to me. This is the fuel-injected version, powered by the same Tipo F110A flat-12, fuel injection, and a 5-speed gated manual.
Since I’m not always in Switzerland, I have it stored at the dealership. Most of my involvement is planning out maintenance, repairs, or the occasional refresh. I would say the BB is in near-mint condition, with low mileage (currently at 21,000 KM as of June 2025)
For now, focusing on keeping the car in perfect factory condition. I don’t have any major “build” planned for this one; with the value these cars are reaching, I’d rather not mess with originality. But…I do have a habit of struggling to leave things stock. For now, though, Francesca stays true to her roots!

Maintenance & Repairs – 20,800 km
Focus: Electricals, fuses, ignitions and exhaust gaskets
A round of repairs and maintenance to address minor wear and age-related issues. The work included an annual service with fluids and filters, air conditioning recharge, and fresh oil and brake fluids. A full engine removal for better access, and replaced the timing belts, tensioners, and all accessory belts. Multiple exhaust gaskets were swapped, and a faulty fuse box was diagnosed and replaced after a full system check and rewiring. The ignition system also had some repairs/adjustments, with a new power pack and ignition components, and a battery refresh.
Engine & Drivetrain – 20,900 km
Focus: Engine & Clutch refresh

Shortly after, the car received a major refresh focused on long-term reliability. The engine and transmission were dropped again for a comprehensive overhaul. Every key gasket and seal for the valve covers, camshafts, and end plates was replaced to eliminate any leaks. Hoses for coolant, breather, and water were renewed, along with fresh seals and gaskets throughout the water pump and cooling system.
The clutch system was fully replaced due to wear. The original clutch for the ’84 had been discontinued, and tracking down the correct remanufactured part wasn’t straightforward. There were several options online, many with conflicting compatibility info. Maranello Classic Parts came through by confirming the correct F-109460/C unit and shipping it directly to the dealer in Switzerland.
Along with the clutch kit, all related O-rings, pressure seals, and the release bearing were replaced. Distributor gaskets, oil seals, and ignition components were renewed as well, with new spark plugs fitted. Final touches included fresh CV boots and clamps, new differential and axle screws, and a replacement transmission plate.
Spent a full week daily driving the car this summer, and the difference is immediately noticeable. She feels far more reliable now; previous issues like occasional engine cut-offs, fuse problems, and a heavy clutch are completely resolved. The car is smoother and more enjoyable to drive than it’s been in years.
