If you drive your GT-R in winter (READ!)
Problem 1: Rusted Motor Starter
When i was in the US for 4 years living in Boston & NY. The GT-R was my daily, so I drove it all year long, and in several snow storms. After moving back home, 5 years later, something happened!
I was having issues starting the car at first as if it was weak struggling to crank. I thought it was the battery dying. Next, I changed the battery. Tried cranking again, and still same issue.
Next day, I try to start the car and just hear this one “TICK” noise .. car won’t start. Asked a few people, some suggested is was the common steering wheel lock issue, but it wasn’t
Informed my tuner, he looked at my Oil pressure gauge and thought it was too low at idle, and thought this was what was causing the issue. So, I changed the oil pressure system, the bearings etc on the pistons… after that the car was back to normal and cranking fine ( for 4 days)
On the 5th day, It happened again, one tick, no start. Took the car back to the tuner, to check the starter motor. They stripped the car from the bottom and there it was… The starter was rusted in SALT, other parts were rusted as well, including a little rust on the outside housing of the turbos.
Tuner replaced the starter with a new Nissan Patrol starter, they sand dusted and cleaned some of the rusts around.

Problem 2: Snapped Midpipe
Took the car after on a long hour drive on the highway…and suddenly noticed the car being way too loud. The drone gave me a headache. Less than a mile away from home, I decided to floor it..and MY GOD.. i swear it sounded like a 4.1 on steroids.
Immediately, I put the car on a lift…and was SHOCKED!!. The midpipe snapped in half! The only reasonable explanation is the rust finally built up due to salts over the years and just completely snapped with that last pull i did. Still though, very odd. This happened overnight after 4 years running this setup.
So for those who tend to drive in snow, just watch out from the salts.. make sure to clean the bottom as much as possible – not sure how one would be able to just clean the inner parts but be careful. Good luck!
