Best Sounding Exhaust System
If you google searched, I’m sure the top 3 popular results will show: Milltek, AWE, and APR. I’ve had 2 exhaust systems on my B8 S5 and that was the first car, with an aftermarket exhaust, that made me so picky when ordering exhaust setups on my other cars.
2 main factors you should always consider in exhausts: Sound Quality & DRONE!
At first, I was into the whole LOUD V8 scene, which made me pick the Milltek Non-Resonated Exhaust. That exhaust had absolutely no appealing tone. It was just loudness. Another horrible issue was the drone in-cabin. It was unbearable, especially while highway cruising at around 60mph. Just this loud-annoying constant rumble.
Back in 2012-13, AWE was a very popular option for exhausts. They had 2 different options (Track & Touring) with downpipes sold separately. Many owners spoke differently in terms of sound. Some claimed no drone, and others did confirm drone…so I was hesitant. That’s when I first stumbled upon APR, and their RSC full exhaust system.
The full system was pricier than all other options, but one thing that stood out in their description “eliminating unwanted in cabin sound resonance known as “drone“. SOLD!! .. Went with that, and it was the best decision.
100% no drone as stated, and it sounded good…Too good! Nice tone, not obnoxiously loud, and downshift burbles. It almost sounds like a Maserati GranTurismo-ish tone.
